Solar Panels Valdosta GA: Why Go Solar in Georgia

It’s time to join your neighbors in the Valdosta area that have already gone solar.

You may have noticed the increased electricity rates. You most likely noticed the larger electric bill, even if you’re not using more electricity. Or maybe you’re just tired of paying the power company month after month.

With solar panels on your home, you can drastically reduce your electric bill, have no electric bill or even have the electric company paying you for your electricity. Plus, you’ll be doing your part to help save the planet.

Even more, Valdosta homeowners have access to several additional financial incentives right now that may not be around forever.

Valdosta Georgia Solar Incentives & Tax Credits

Currently, there are several ways that residents of Georgia can reduce the cost of your home’s solar system and save you money for years to come.

They include:

Using the Federal Solar Tax Credit for Valdosta Solar Systems

If you invest in a solar system through the end of 2032, the Federal Government will give you a tax credit that offsets 30% of the cost of your solar panels.* If you don’t use the entire credit this year, they will roll over to next year’s taxes. The 30% rate is retroactive to solar arrays installed in 2022 before the law was passed. The rate decreases to 26% in 2033 and 22% in 2034.**

Net Metering for Valdosta Homeowners

With net metering, instead of the power company supplying your home with electricity, you’re supplying the power company with electricity.

You’ll receive credit with your local power company for any excess energy that you don’t use and send to their grid system. At night when there’s no sun, you’ll be billed as you normally would by the power company for any electricity that you use. However, now you’ll be able to use your credits from the sunny day to pay for that electricity.

It can result in a dramatically lower monthly electricity bill. Some ADT Solar customers even have $0 electric bills. We’ll work with you using your current electric bill, how much electricity you can expect to get from solar panels, so that you can determine how much you can expect your electric bill to decrease.

Utility Company Buyback System Program Limits
Georgia Power Georgia Power offers a unique buyback program. They purchase renewable energy from eligible providers until cumulative generative capacity reaches a specific amount set by the Georgia Public Service Commission. This program is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Limitation on system size is 10 kW for residential and 250 kW for commercial.

Solar Easements Act for Georgia Solar Panels

Solar Panel Groundmount in Valdosta, GA
A major perk for solar Georgia residents, that many other states don’t have, is the Solar Easements Act.

A solar easement won’t save you money when you buy your solar system, but it could save you money in the long-run and protect your solar investment.

Georgia passed a solar easement to protect homeowners from having their solar panels blocked or restricted by neighbor’s trees or new construction.

This is important because you don’t want anything blocking your solar panels from the sun. Anything blocking your solar panels will reduce the amount of electricity produced by your solar system. In a perfect world, you’ll want no trees or buildings stopping the sun from reaching your panels.

An easement will create an agreement that sets restrictions on the height of trees or buildings that could block your solar panels and therefore reduce your electrical output.

Solar Panels Increase Home Value in Georgia

Even the experts agree! In two separate studies by the Department of Energy and Berkeley Laboratory and US Department of Energy and National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), the evidence was clear.

On average, solar panels add $20 of value for every $1 you save on your electric bill. So if you saved $200 a month on your electric bill with solar panels, you’d have an additional $4,000 of value added to your home.

In addition, homes with solar panels on average got a higher asking price than those without. About $4/watt, which comes out to be around $15,000 for residential, depending on your home and solar system.

Solar panels can help your property spend less time on the market. In another study done by NREL, they found that solar properties earned about 17% more at closing as well as selling 20% faster.
