Ah, Florida. The home of Sunshine. Oranges. Wildlife of all kinds. White sandy beaches with blue water. Florida is a state of ultimate paradise, and did you know it’s also a great state to go solar?
The climate and the abundant sunshine make Florida a perfect place for amazing trail hikes, boating excursions, and historical sightseeing. Having solar panels installed on your home in West Palm Beach allows you to produce clean, green energy, which protects Florida’s beaches, air and 175 state parks!
The sunshine Florida gets will help you save money when you fire your power company and switch to solar!
Keep reading- we’ve got a few things to share with you about how going solar can take those power bills to new lows in West Palm Beach.
Let’s take a look at what the Solar Energy Industry Association (SEIA) has to say about Florida and solar power:
Another question most people have when considering solar is how much it costs to go solar in Florida. This can depend on a lot of factors including where you live, the size of your home, how much energy you use and which panels you purchase. Find out more about the cost of solar.
Another major factor that determines the cost of going solar is the solar incentives available to homeowners. In Florida, there are quite a few incentives that make going solar affordable and an easy decision.
Net metering is one of the most important (and beneficial) regulations for solar array owners in Florida, because it allows you (the homeowner) to sell back the excess power your solar panels generate to the power company (Like Duke or Florida P&L,) crediting your account with them and can even get you a near-zero power bill!
Those credits can also come in handy when the sun goes down at night, or if you have a particularly cloudy day (and don’t have a backup battery,) you can draw on those credits and not come out-of-pocket for power used.
Yes, you read that correctly! When you add solar panels to your house, the overall value of your home goes up; but as an incentive for Florida residents to go green, Florida won’t tack on any new taxes to that added value. Period.
Another thing to not pay for in West Palm Beach! Not only will you get more money for your home due to the increased value, but even BEFORE that, you won’t have to pay the sales tax on your new solar array (and batteries, if you choose.) We can think of a few different places in Rosemary Square we could spend that 6%!
Probably the biggest incentive to fire your power company is the ITC, or the solar tax credit. It could offset the cost of your residential solar panel array by 30%. That’s right – 30% of your ENTIRE purchase of home solar panels could be given right back to you as a tax credit from the government if you get your solar energy system installed by the end of 2032.* The other good news about that is, if you don’t use all the credit that first year, the remainder rolls over to the next.
This tax rate is available until the end of 2032 and gets reduced to 26% in 2033. Homeowners who get their solar array installed in 2034 will get a 22% credit. Panels installed in 2022 before the law passed will receive the 30% credit, because it’s retroactive to the beginning of 2022.** So, if you’re looking to get the biggest bang for your buck, you may want to consider going solar in West Palm Beach sooner rather than later.
Florida Statute 163.04 forbids any binding agreement between HOAs or otherwise to prohibit a property owner from installing solar panels. Period. They can try to tell you where on your roof to put them (maybe the HOA doesn’t want them to be in plain view,) but if their desired location or requirements doesn’t meet an orientation to the south or within 45° east or west of due south, they cannot stop you from installing solar panels on your roof that provide the highest efficiency for you.

So, there it is. All the goodness. All the marbles. All the ways how sunshine in the Sunshine State can help you tell your power company to kick rocks.
Your HOA can’t stop you. The government will LITERALLY give you money back if you choose to go solar. Florida won’t make you pay sales tax on your new solar panel array. Florida also won’t make you pay new taxes on the increased value of your home. The final straw is your utility company, after years of fluctuating prices, will finally (likely) pay YOU for power — not the other way around!
And here at ADT Solar, we’re excited to bring you the best purchasing experience, the best warranties, and the best installation experience. With each solar installation, you also receive:
